CFWNC supports Camplify with $18,000 grant

Hendersonville, NC (December 2, 2016) – Camplify has been awarded a People in Need Grant of $18,000 to support camp-based programs for students in need. The mission of Camplify is to use a series of camp-based and experiential learning programs to teach kids-in-need the life skills required to succeed and become the leaders of tomorrow.

This grant allows Camplify to welcome additional 4th and 5th grade students in our region to begin the first of five Camplify programs. Through two weekend camp experiences at Camp Bob at Kanuga, 150 elementary students will learn leadership skills with positive role models and peer supports. Additionally, 80 Camplify middle school students who have excelled at weekend camps will earn the opportunity to continue learning at Camplify’s second program, weeklong camp, in August 2017.

Funding for this program was provided by the Delphinium Fund, Elton and Aline Hansens Charitable Fund, and Janirve Legacy Fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and the Lipscomb Family Foundation and Sutherland Foundation. CFWNC is a permanent regional resource that facilitates more than $15 million in charitable giving annually. More information on The Community Foundation can be found at cfwnc.org.

“Through this grant, Camplify provides channels for children to excel in their creativity, teambuilding, and responsibility. Many families in our region struggle to find cost-effective outlets for their children, such as affordable sports teams and the arts. This generous grant allows such a basic need to be met for our children: encouraging role models.” said Camplify Executive Director, Kristin Dunn. “We are extremely grateful for The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. This award will help more than 225 Camplify families and bolster our efforts to meet children’s needs throughout Western North Carolina.”

Unlike other groups that focus on a child’s academics or health, Camplify is dedicated to a child’s character. Every year, Camplify connects over 200 local youth with skill-building opportunities utilizing camp and monthly retreats. Through our progressive programs, students begin in grade 4 to learn about responsibility, collaboration, goal-setting, and more.
