Asheville Veterans Stand Down Event

CHARLES GEORGE VA MEDICAL CENTER, Asheville, N.C. – On Friday, September 8 the Charles George VA Medical Center Healthcare for Homeless Veterans program will host its annual one-day Stand Down for homeless Veterans, in partnership with the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry. The event is between 9 a.m. and noon at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center, located at 30 George Washington Carver Avenue in Asheville.

The Stand Down event highlights the collective efforts and unique partnerships between government, non-profit organizations, business and community members who are dedicated to addressing Veteran homelessness. During the event, homeless Veterans and Veterans who are at risk of becoming homeless will have the opportunity to speak with VA healthcare representatives and community agencies to receive information on housing, employment, mental health, education and other benefits. Other services available at the Stand Down include meals, haircuts, medical screenings and more.

Veterans will need a VA ID card or DD-214 to confirm Veteran status. For more information contact the HCHV program at 828-298-7911 ext. 1198.
