Charlotte Observer: Harris Teeter shareholders sue over Kroger deal

A Harris Teeter is under construction on Merrimon Avenue. Rumors that another grocery chain — Kroger — was buying the Charlotte-based company have been around for months, and last week, a deal was announced. As the Raleigh News & Observer reported, “The Kroger grocery store chain said Tuesday that it is buying the Harris Teeter chain in a deal valued at $2.5 billion.”

Today, the Asheville Citizen-Times noted a report that Harris Teeter shareholders are suing:

Harris Teeter shareholders have sued to block the purchase of the North Carolina grocery chain by the Kroger Co. of Cincinnati.

The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/17nmsp5Published) the lawsuit was filed in Mecklenburg County on Tuesday.

The lawsuit says that Matthews-based Harris Teeter failed to get a high enough premium to its closing price.
