Child Pedestrian Fatalities in East Asheville

(ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Dec. 02, 2016) – On December 1, 2016 at approximately 6:17pm, a motor vehicle collision occurred at 837 Fairview Rd. Aurora Garcia (72 years of age) was walking with Alexander Bautista-Gomez (10 years of age) and Milena Alejandro-Bautista (5 years of age) crossing the intersection of 837 Fairview Rd. Elvin Jossue Hernandez was operating a 2003 Acura traveling East on Fairview Rd approaching the same intersection. Hernandez did not see the three people crossing the road and hit all three of them in the intersection. All three were transported to Mission Hospital. The children did not survive their injuries. Garcia is being treated at Mission Hospital with non-life threating injuries. Hernandez was arrested for not having a valid North Carolina driver’s license. The Asheville Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is handling the investigation which is still on going.
