Chris McDougall holds fun run and book signing, April 30

Usually reading is sedentary unless it has to do with Chris McDougall, author of Born to Run and (most recently) Natural Born Heroes: How a Daring Band of Misfits Mastered the Lost Secrets of Strength and Endurance. McDougall was a foreign correspondant before penning his first book (soon to be a movie starring Matthew McConaughey). He’ll return to Malaprop’s on Thursday, April 30, to discuss Natural Born Heroes and to lead a fun run through downtown Asheville in advance of the reading.

Anyone is welcome to join him on this quick run through town where he will demonstrate the principles of freerunning and parkour that he illuminates in his book. Fans of his running style are certain to be in for a treat with this!

CHRIS McDOUGALL DISCUSSION & SIGNING
We are thrilled to welcome Chris McDougall back to Asheville! He taught us how to run. Now, he teaches us how to move in his new book, Natural Born Heroes: How a Daring Band of Misfits Mastered the Lost Secrets of Strength and Endurance. Inspired by an incredible tale of a WWII-era Greek feat,  McDougall’s new book explores the methods used to create these feats and the places and people still training and acting like heroes, while pausing “to consider what exactly makes a hero a hero, examining history, anatomy, physiology, and fitness” (Publishers Weekly). McDougall is also the author of Born to Run, which spent a combined 206 weeks on the New York Times best sellers list and is a staff favorite.
