Chris Pelly not seeking second term

Singe term Asheville city council person, Chris Pelly is not seeking re-election.  In a Citizen-Times op ed today, Pelly expressed gratitude to his constituents and spoke about his attempts to “raise the profile of Asheville neighborhoods.”  He also reminded readers of the importance of city halls actions and to be engaged in civil discourse.  In addition, he advised the voting public on how best to elect a new council person and encouraged readers to run for his office themselves.

“So what qualities should you seek in my replacement? In my experience someone who is both a generalist and a specialist. A generalist in the sense of someone curious by nature, flexible and empathetic in temperament, and with the stamina for regular and active public engagement. A specialist in the sense of bringing some specific expertise to City Council… My only other advice is to seek balance; economic, geographic, cultural and otherwise.”- Chris Pelly (excerpted from Citizen-Times)
