CIMA supports call for statewide ‘Day Without Immigrants’ Feb. 18

Press release from Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción:

Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, the community of Sanford, Durham, Fuquay, Burlington, Fayetteville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Hendersonville and Monroe have experienced the terror of the heavy presence from ICE- Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Throughout the week and for the coming weeks, CIMA’s focus is in mobilizing for the protection of our communities and being prepared for Rapid Resistance. The events of this past week statewide massive raids have been devastating. We learned from our community organization partners in those areas, and the disturbing press conference by Sean Gallagher, ICE Field Office Director, that 250 people plus have been taken across North Carolina.

CIMA has received various calls from community members that have seen suspicious cars in their neighborhoods. Through intimidation, targeting and spreading fear, an unstable environment for Buncombe, Henderson and surrounding counties has been created. Community members are scared, but more so, community members are indignant.

It is for this reason that we are supporting the statewide call to action, “Un Dia Sin Inmigrantes En Carolina Del Norte” (A Day Without Immigrants in North Carolina) taking place this Monday, Feb. 18, 2019. Workers and students will be absent to make a statement about the imperative importance of the immigrant community in the economy and thriving of North Carolina. We will be gathering with directly impacted members over lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to further strengthen ourselves and our political power at CIMA’s office on 528 Emma Rd. Asheville, NC 28806. “If they sow fear, we have the right to interrupt the economy, to make visible that we are organized” said one of the core community organizers.

We did not initiate this call to action, but we firmly believe in its effort and we ask the general public to stand with us. If you are a business owner, please support the employees that choose to join this action. If you are a teacher, or school director, we ask that you take serious consideration in giving your students forgive absences. If you are an ally, we ask that you use this day of action to call your legislators, representatives and local political bodies.

The USA Congress has massively failed in it’s legal and moral obligations to pass legislation to reform the USA’S immigration laws! But, until our do-less-than-nothing Congress does it’s job We the Citizens of the USA elected them to do, breaking our immigration laws is a criminal act. If a USA Citizen breaks a law, and is found guilty of doing so, that USA Citizen will be punished according to our laws. There are no special exceptions for illegal immigrants who break the laws of the USA. My heart goes out to our Law Enforcement Officers who put their lives on the line
every day, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, enforcing our Nation’s laws. Thank you and God bless you for your dedicated service to our Communities, our State, and our Nation.

Kinda feeling like CIMA et al., are really stopping short with half-measures. I say they oughtta go for the gusto, you know, like really prove to us how much we would miss the invaders. I dare them to instead of a “day” without illegal invaders we try a MILLENIUM without them and see how that plays out? lol! They don’t have the guts to I’m sure, but instead of doing something real, good luck with the spineless virtue signaling CIMA, lol!
