Press release from City of Hendersonville:
On October 1, 1999 House Bill 1160 was enacted by the NC General Assembly requiring that all local governments, animal operations, industries and others who operate wastewater collection and handling systems issue a news press release when a spill of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. In accordance with North Carolina General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C the following news release has been prepared and is hereby issued to the local media in the affected area(s).
The City of Hendersonville’s Wastewater Collection System experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater from our collection system on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at approximately 10:20 am from manhole number 3769 located behind 142 Pinehurst Dr due to excessive rainfall resulting in this sanitary sewer overflow (SSO). This discharge released approximately 20,000 gallons of untreated wastewater which entered Clear Creek in the French Broad River Basin.
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, (NCDEQ) Division of Water Resources (DWR) was notified of the event on Monday, January 13, 2020 and will be reviewing this matter.
