City collects 327 tons of leaves

From the press release:

The City of Asheville has completed its 2011-2012 loose leaf collection efforts. This season 327 tons of loose leaves – more than 654,000 pounds, or the equivalent weight of 59 African elephants – were collected from city neighborhoods.

Although the city continues to pick up bagged leaves and brush twice a month throughout the year, we will no longer provide bags at the Fire Stations. The collection schedule and guidelines are available on the city Web site at www.ashevillenc.gov/sanitation. Please call 251-1122 with any additional questions about sanitation services.
