City of Asheville August Board and Commission Vacancies

The boards listed below currently have vacancies. The deadline for receiving applications for these openings is Wednesday, August 8 at 5 p.m.

ADA COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE – The Committee shall hear complaints filed under the City’s Americans With Disabilities Act Grievance Procedure.

CIVIC CENTER COMMISSION – Some duties of the Commission include (1) reviewing and making recommendations on programming goals and objectives for each venue in the Civic Center; (2) establishing a method for handling of customer service complaints; (3) developing and making recommendations regarding long range plans for the Civic Center; (4) reviewing and making recommendations on proposals for changes in the fees and charges for use of Civic Center facilities; (5) encouraging promotion of sports, recreation, entertainment and cultural events and activities, and to facilitate the use of the services and facilities of the Civic Center; and (6) performing other such tasks and functions as the City Council may direct.

HOUSING AUTHORITY – The Commissioners are the policy-makers and governing body of the Housing Authority. They review and approve all budgets for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, approve plans and specifications, award contracts and appoint the Executive Director.

HUB COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCE BOARD – The Hub Project is Asheville and Buncombe County’s collaborative, sustainable, intentional community, cultural and economic development strategy. The HUB is described as a catalyst for collaboration around a coordinated economic and community development vision of what Asheville and Buncombe County can become. The Alliance works to stimulate interaction and collaboration within and across clusters identified by the Alliance—Technology, Rejuvenation, Creativity, Land/Ag, Enterprise/ entrepreneurship, and Advanced Manufacturing. The Alliance will monitor and publicize progress via concrete metrics. The Alliance will support clusters and projects by raising funds from public and private sources.

NOISE ORDINANCE APPEALS BOARD – This vacancy is for an Alternate. This Board will advise the City on matters related to noise and noise control, and will hear and decide appeals and complaints from citizens.

TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY – Vacancy is for an owner or operator of a hotel, motel, or other taxable tourist accommodation with more than 100 rental units. The purpose of the Authority is to further the development of travel, tourism, and conventions in the county through state, national and international advertising and promotion.
