Clay artist Lucy Clark honored with inaugural “Betty Taylor Award for Emerging Artists” in Henderson County

ARTS COUNCIL OF HENDERSON COUNTY AND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HENDERSON COUNTY TO HONOR FIRST RECIPIENT OF THE BETTY TAYLOR AWARD

Hendersonville NC – The Arts Council of Henderson County, in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Henderson County, will honor Lucy Clark as the first recipient of the Betty Taylor Award for Emerging Artists. An award ceremony is planned for Friday, December 16, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gallery at Flat Rock, 2702A Greenville Hwy., Flat Rock, NC.

Clark is a clay artist who plans to attend a three week workshop to study under master potter, Clarence Cruz, at the Georgia O’Keefe Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM. The grant award will support her attendance at the workshop in early January, and afterward, the construction of a kiln.

The Arts Council of Henderson County will announce guidelines and eligibility requirements for the new annual Taylor Award early next year for interested artists. The Taylor Award, named in memory of Ellen (Betty) Taylor, promotes and supports emerging artists who are studying in the field of visual arts and crafts.
