Cloud Cottage Community of Mindful Living hosts dedication ceremony

Press release from Cloud Cottage Community of Mindful Living:

The public is invited to the upcoming dedication ceremony of Cloud Cottage Community of Mindful Living’s recently acquired Avalokitesvara (Quan Yin) statue, a gift of Mary Sorrells of Black Mountain. The ceremony will take place the Wednesday after Valentine’s Day, February 17, 6-7:30, at Cloud Cottage, 219 Old Toll Circle, Black Mountain, with a vegetarian potluck meal to follow.

Special guest will be Bonnie Myotai Treace, Sensei, founding teacher of Hermitage Heart, where she teaches at Gristmill Hermitage in Garrison, New York, also living part of the year in Swannanoa. Particularly known for her work in women’s spirituality, poetry, and the nexus of mind and environment, she is the senior Dharma successor of John Daido Loori, Roshi, in the Mountains and Rivers Order. Serving for almost two decades as vice-abbot of Zen Mountain Monastery, Treace was the establishing teacher and first abbess of the Zen Center of New York City. She holds advanced degrees in literature, and is author of Winter Moon: A Season of Zen. She and her husband live part-time in Swannanoa.

Treace will offer a Dharma talk and a poem of dedication to Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, otherwise known as Quan Yin, the embodiment of unconditional love, she who hears the cries of the world.

Please arrive early, as space is limited. Food can be placed in the tea-room, with ceremony to take place upstairs in the Dharma Hall. Participants may want to park on the street if able to walk up the drive. All events at Cloud Cottage are by donation. Members practice in the Plum Village tradition of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.
