Comedy Gardener hosts Yam Festival at Sly Grog Lounge, Aug. 6

Press release from Cory The Gardener:

Local YouTube sensation Cory The Gardener gathers energy for his debut live performance at downtown hotspot, Sly Grog Lounge. The Monday, August 6 Yam Festival begins at 9 PM and will heavily feature open-mic stand-up comedy.

“Comedy, like gardening, is about growing,” host Cory ‘The Gardener’ Thompson said. “The Yam Festival will provide a safe place for comedians and the audience to grow together like a pair of happy blueberry bushes. I’m also going to get a cookie cake.”

CTG’s Yam Festival is set to pop off in the same week as Asheville’s nationally recognized comedy festival, Laugh Your Asheville Off.

“Asheville’s comedy ecosystem buzzes every night of the week with wonderful comedy events,” Thompson says. “But there’s a hole where the Monday night show should be. Filling this plot with a hardy, full-sun open-mic comedy show will give locals a chance to express themselves and entertain tourists enjoying a long weekend.”

Thompson’s partnership with Sly Grog Lounge covers one show, Monday, August 6. There are discussions of potentially creating a recurring event if the launch proves successful.

“I want to push past the original open mic formula and create unique local showcases where a handful of veteran comedians each week can experiment with 20-minute performances,” Thompson says.

The event is taking place at Sly Grog Lounge on Monday, August 6 at 9pm. Tickets are free and more information is available on Facebook.
