Community Engagement Social at Hillcrest Apartments, July 26

Press release from Asheville Community Engagement Social:

The Asheville Housing Authority, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Buncombe County Health and Human Services, and valued community partners will continue their second annual Community Engagement Social series with an entertaining, family-friendly community resource fair at Hillcrest Apartments on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This is the third event of four that will occur this summer throughout the City of Asheville. Over 300 people attended each Community Engagement Social held last year. The 2018 Community Engagement Social series dates and locations include: Pisgah View Apartments (June 14th), Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center (July 13th), Hillcrest Apartments (July 26th), and Deaverview Apartments (August 9th).  All Community Engagement Social events are free and open to the public.

Be prepared to receive a wealth of information and opportunities from the community resource fair. Enjoy free food, and witness the talent showcase of local artists accompanied by DJ Sonya Fair; prizes will be awarded. In addition, there will be plenty of kid-friendly activities, including bounce houses, games, fire truck tours from the Asheville Fire Department, nutritional food demonstrations by the YMCA, and arts and crafts led by LEAF Community Arts.

The highlight of all Community Engagement Social series events is the Community Resource Fair. There will be representatives from more than 30 community organizations, providing life-changing opportunities to all attendees. “This year, Community Partners are challenged to not only pass out information about their programs and resources, they are also charged with truly connecting with attendees and forging new relationships,” says Michael Carter, the Director of Buncombe County STEP (Skills, Training and Employment Program).

“These events are a chance for Asheville residents to learn about and get connected to the many free and low-cost resources available in our community, such as health screenings, education and job training programs, financial planning resources, and healthy food. We’ll also have a few local employers onsite ready to interview and hire new talent,” says Shaunda Sandford of the Asheville Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency and Homeownership program.

The 2018 Community Engagement Social series is sponsored by: Asheville Housing Authority, A-B Tech, Biltmore Farms, MB Haynes Corporation, Allegra, The Cathedral of All Souls, Asheville City Schools, and Asheville Police Department.
