Council member Bothwell will speak at April 1 Dinner w/ Progressives

Full announcement from Cecil Bothwell’s re-election campaign:

Asheville, NC— City Councilmember Cecil Bothwell will address the April meeting of Dinner w/Progressives, tomorrow, April 1 at Firestorm Cafe and Books. Bothwell will outline pending legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly that will do serious financial harm to this and other municipalities in the state.

“When the state legislature acts to deprive cities of funding, it represents a direct hit to municipal taxpayers. The millions of dollars in lost revenue will mean either higher real estate taxes or lower levels of service. There is no way around that equation.”

Asheville’s City Council is currently working on the FY 2014 budget, and has been holding frequent work sessions in addition to its regular formal council meetings, to consider funding options, expenditure reductions and to weigh the likely results of bills currently under consideration in Raleigh.

Incumbent Cecil Bothwell is running for re-election for another four-year term on the Asheville City Council. Bothwell is an investigative reporter, builder, organic gardener and public servant. In addition, he leads a jail ministry affiliated with the Unitarian Universality Church of Asheville.
