Montreat singer-songwriter David LaMotte has been a force on the local scene and beyond for over eighteen years, not only for his acclaimed songs but as a voice for positive change. His songs, tireless touring and gentle authority have earned him a large and loyal worldwide following. The award-winning LaMotte performs closer to home with a special appearance at the White Horse Black Mountain on Saturday, July 5 at 8 p.m. He’ll be joined by Bill Berg on drums, cellist Sarah Moor and guest artist Josh Messick on hammered dulcimer. Opening the family-friendly show is 13 year old pianist, drummer and singer-songwriter Ian Ridenhour.

David La Motte’s music and activism have taken him around the world as a performer, speaker and workshop leader. In 2008 he put his performing career on hold to accept a Rotary World Peace Fellowshop, studying conflict resolution and international relations in Brisbane, Australia and working with a Ghandian development organization in India. He and his wife, Deanna, have also founded a non-profit in Guatemala to support schools and libraries. LaMotte is the author of a children’s book, The S.S. Bathtub, based on his song of the same same, and is working on two other books, one tentatively titled Worldchanging 101: Practical Idealism, and the other, White Flour, recounting a creative real-world response to a Knoxville Klan march. Along the way he’s recorded ten well-received CDs and toured four continents, and his strong local fan base leaves a history of full houses.

Show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 advance/$20 door/$10 kids.
Tickets available online.
