Dead Romance: New Velvet & Lace event planned at Buxton Hall Barbecue, Feb. 4

PRESS RELEASE from Velvet & Lace:

Velvet & Lace
Dead Romance: A celebration of the female presence in Asheville’s bar scene

What:

Velvet & Lace is back yet again for round three! The next event is February 4th at Buxton Hall, beginning at 10 pm. This month will feature bombshell babe and crazy talented guest bartender – Shannon McGaughey of Bull & Beggar and Salt & Smoke.

The February V&L will be all about dark romance, mad love, aphrodisiacs, old love potions and lots of herbs and smoke. Patrons will see some of the same heavy hitters as the previous two events – DJ Night Nurse on vinyl, Rose Hecht manning the photo booth, a Buxton Hall chef on the pits, Kelly Vormelker and Sam Pennington behind the insanity and behind the stick.

Overview:

Velvet & Lace is a women-centric event that focuses on celebrating the talented females within Asheville’s bar scene. Kelly Vormelker and Sam Pennington of Buxton Hall have teamed up to create a night of females, fire, music and cocktails, channeled through the lens of The Craft and Stevie Nicks. Think witchcraft, white doves and black magic. Mary Kelley aka “DJ Night Nurse” spins dark classics, Rose Hecht brings photo booth fun. Food is served, with Elliot Moss manning the pits.

Velvet & Lace takes place once a month, over the course of six months, always on the first Thursday of the month. Each month, Velvet & Lace hosts a different female bartender currently working in Asheville. The decidedly dark theme showcases craft cocktails made by these lovely ladies, with a focus on smoke, fire, herbs, elixirs and tinctures. Vormelker and Pennington are finalizing the lineup of badass babes. Expect heavy hitters from Buxton Hall and MG Road to show up such as, Leah Peacock, Sarah Cousler, Jennifer Moss, Erin Hawley and Mary Kelley as well as girls from hot Asheville cocktail spots. All girls and BOYS are strongly encouraged to attend.

Additionally, 10% of sales are donated to Our VOICE. Our VOICE serves all individuals in Buncombe County affected by sexual assault and abuse, through counseling, advocacy and education.

When:

Velvet & Lace takes place the first Thursday of every month at the main bar of Buxton Hall Barbeque. Six events are planned – one event each month. Final confirmation from the guest bartenders is pending.

Each event runs from 10 pm to 1 am.
Where: Buxton Hall Barbeque 32 Banks Avenue, South Slope of Asheville

Takeaways:

This event was inspired by the simple fact that female bartenders are outnumbered in this town. While Asheville is a very accepting place, bartending is still largely seen as a man’s job. Our goal is to overlook any negative stigma around this truth and simply celebrate the badass women working within Asheville’s bar scene. Each event will be sexy, mysterious and empowering. In addition, we are donating 10% of sales to Our VOICE. Our VOICE serves all individuals in Buncombe County affected by sexual assault and abuse, through counseling, advocacy and education.
