Delta Rae releases cover of the song “Asheville” from Tony-nominated Broadway musical “Bright Star”

Everybody seems to be smitten with little old Asheville lately, garnering everything from write-ups in travel magazines across the country to a Broadway musical set in the city. And now, the driving forces behind the Tony award-nominated “Bright Star” are hoping to spread their love of Asheville and its environs with a new musical collaboration.

North Carolina’s folk and bluegrass sextet Delta Rae has teamed up with the legendary Steve Martin and Edie Brickell to release a cover of the song “Asheville” from “Bright Star,” which was written and composed by Martin and Brickell. Inspired by the city’s history and the beauty of it’s surrounding landscape, “Bright Star” tells a story of love and loss, ambition and sacrifice, and ultimately reunion. Ranging from the 1920s to the post-World War II era, Asheville and its surrounding environs play a central role in the production.

WABC has called “Bright Star” — which ended its Broadway run on June 26, 2016 — “Broadway’s most beautiful show.” Check out Delta Rae’s cover of “Asheville” at Bright Star: A New Musical, or see it below.
