Detainee with COVID booked into Buncombe County Detention Facility

Press release from Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office:

A Buncombe County resident who had recently tested positive for COVID-19 has been booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on criminal charges. The individual disclosed that they had tested positive to local law enforcement upon arrest.

Medical staff at the Detention Facility administered an additional test when the individual was brought to our facility and that test came back positive today. The individual was processed in the exterior sallyport of the Detention Facility and taken directly to a cell where they are being medically isolated and monitored. The individual is asymptomatic.

The Sheriff’s Office will not release any possible identifying information such as name, charge or bond amount due to HIPAA and state privacy laws.
