DWI charges brought in pedestrian death on I-240 on Saturday, Nov. 12

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

(ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Nov. 14, 2016) – On Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at approximately 6:04 a.m. Asheville Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on I -240 West near Chunns Cove Road.  A preliminary investigation revealed that a blue 1990 Chevrolet GMT 400 operated by 26 year old Aaron Lee Thurman of Black Mountain was traveling westbound on I -240 when it entered onto the right shoulder of the highway and struck 23 year old Christian Blade Johnson of Asheville. Johnson was walking along the side of the highway.  Johnson died at the scene.

Thurman has been charged with Driving While Impaired. Additional charges are pending.
