Em-Power Lunch at Pack’s Tavern Century Room, April 2

Press release from Kudzu Brands:

On April 2nd, we will celebrate a milestone. This is the date that marks the 16 months it takes a woman to earn as much as a man did the year before.

The Em-Power Lunch event will be put on by Webb Investment Services Inc., a female-owned financial services practice that helps individuals, particularly women, make smart choices about their money. The event is open to the public and will take place at Pack’s Tavern Century Room in Asheville.

The purpose of the event is to stimulate a conscious conversation about the way women currently think and talk about money, from the way they are paid to the way they plan for their futures.

According to a recent article in Carolina Public Press, women in North Carolina are still only making 80.9% of men’s earnings. While this discrepancy is often due to breaks in work to attend to family matters, gender discrimination is still prevalent. And, there are opportunities to address it such as creating and enforcing legislation as well as lifestyle and mindset changes.

The Em-Power Lunch event will commemorate both International Women’s Day and Equal Pay Day. International Women’s Day, officially on March 8th, is a global celebration of how far women have come throughout the years, socially, economically and culturally. Equal Pay Day, on the other hand, occurs on April 2 in the United States and was created to foster awareness about the differences between men’s and women’s wages.

Never before held in Asheville, this event aims to be a powerful reminder that, while women have made great strides in the last century, they still have a long way to go. At the Em-Power Lunch, keynote speakers Laura Webb, CFP® and President, and Faith Doyle, Financial Advisor Associate, both of Webb Investments, will discuss how women can collectively transition into a new mindset about their money and the role they play, as well as society, in creating their financial futures.

All event proceeds will go to the Women for Women Endowment Fund, which is part of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, a non-profit organization that responsibly manages, grows and allocates funds to nonprofits and public agencies in the region for charitable purposes.
