Eric Ager announces candidacy for District NC 115

Press release from Eric Ager for NC 115:

NC House candidate Eric Ager to champion working people, children, and veterans through effective statewide policies and funding for mental health care, housing, and cybersecurity alongside long standing economic, environmental, and educational needs Retired Navy Commander Eric Ager, a native of Fairview and resident of the Reynolds community, announced he will file as a candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives seat for District 115 in December.

“We must expect more from our state legislature,” Ager said. “We can prioritize the needs of working people, children, and veterans. My priorities include affordable, accessible mental healthcare, quality housing, cybersecurity, and online privacy because they are daily needs for the people of Buncombe County and throughout North Carolina—on par with our long standing needs to protect our environment, grow good-paying jobs, expand high-speed internet, and invest in public education.”

Ager credits his experience and training during 25-years in the Navy for preparing him to “respectfully and effectively move beyond differences and achieve what’s necessary and what’s strategic. I won’t let politics get in the way of progress. Our state has the resources to better serve working people, veterans, and children—we can deliver on our responsibilities.”

Ager grew up on his family’s working farm, Hickory Nut Gap Farm, where he works as an Operations Consultant. “My passion for family farms, sustainable practices, and protecting our environment is in my blood thanks to many years spent working the land, hiking, swimming, and hunting right here in Buncombe County. These are quality of life issues for current residents and future generations, and people have similar needs throughout our state.”

Ager graduated from A.C. Reynolds High School. He received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and served in the Navy for 25 years. Ager brings technical expertise in cybersecurity, emergency operations, and management from his military career. He served as a pilot and Foreign Area Officer, an expert in political-military operations, and earned the rank of Commander.

“Having followed the progress of the North Carolina legislature over the years, it is clear that the priorities have been about politics rather than people and we need to focus on helping real people in the state. I will work hard, listen, and push for common sense solutions.” Ager and his wife Rachel have four children, all of whom work or attend school in Western North Carolina. Ager is a first time candidate. He is the eldest son of Annie Clarke Ager and John Ager. John Ager is the current NC House Representative; he is not seeking re-election.
