Ethan Wingfield releases TV ad, Christian Broadcasting Network Features calls him a “Teavangelical”

Here’s the press release from the Ethan Wingfield, a GOP congressional candidate in NC District 11:

ARDEN, NC – The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) has taken notice of conservative Christian businessman Ethan Wingfield and his campaign for Congress. On Friday, CBN became the first media outlet in the nation to debut Wingfield’s first TV ad, dubbing Wingfield a “Teavangelical.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have found yet another Teavangelical, a conservative Christian running for office who is combining his evangelical values with the umbrella of the Tea Party platform,” wrote CBN’s Chief Political Correspondent David Brody in his story. “If Wingfield wins, he’d be part of a new generation of Teavangelicals set to start making serious changes up on Capitol Hill.”

In Wingfield’s debut ad, he has a simple message for the people of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District: America’s $15 trillion debt is not just wrong. It’s immoral. Wingfield speaks directly to the voters of North Carolina and frames America’s growing fiscal crisis in the moral terms that truly underlie it.

“Congress should stop reading Obama’s book, give up the New York Times, and pick up The Bible,” said Wingfield. “They can start with Proverbs 22:7. ‘The borrower is slave to the lender.’ Washington either hasn’t read that, or doesn’t care. But I do. We’re borrowing trillions of dollars from countries like China. Our debt is 100% of GDP. And if we don’t act soon to cut spending and get a handle on this immoral debt, things are only going to get worse. America needs bold, conservative solutions, not more of the same. And that’s why I’m running for Congress.”

    More like Ethan Wingnut.

Seriously. These people have no substantive ideas. Just a lot of whargarbl about debt and deficit, which are both directly related to their own failed and discredited policies (with the complicit assistance of the centrist Democrats) over the last thirty years.

Mat, I don’t know what Constitution you have been reading, but it explicitly states only white male landowners should vote. Try and keep up. Also, welfare is a sin and bombs are jesus.

“Washington hasn’t read that (scriptural admonishment against borrowing) or doesn’t care”.

How many ways is this ridiculous?
    1) Try publicly telling your Republican colleagues not to borrow – ever. They won’t bother nailing you to a cross, they’ll just have you shot in the parking lot before you can even make it to your car.

    2) The US Constitution doesn’t require consulting a 400 year-old English translation of a 2200 year-old Greek translation of an Aramaic translation of some guy speaking Hebrew while sitting on a rock on the way to a city that was swallowed up by the sands of time, before creating fiscal policy in the twenty-first century. I know, because I checked.

    3) The borrowing has always been higher under Republican Presidents, and the current debt spree you’re railing against is fueled by the failed wars of choice by GW Bush, the massive tax cuts on the rich that the House won’t allow Obama to repeal, and the Great Recession begun under Dubya.

Yes, please. Let’s have more of that.

Haven’t I explained the fallacy of trying to explain any of this to these people? They don’t care. The facts don’t apply to them.

It’s almost as if the Objectivist viewpoints that they so slavishly cling to (whether Rand’s, or the Bible’s) are meant to be applied only to other people and not to themselves.

Facts don’t matter to GOP candidates because the voters don’t care. It’s all about how many of Pavlov’s bells they can ring at once.
