Extinction Rebellion WNC holds Nov. 5 March on City Hall

Press release from Extinction Rebellion WNC:

In response to the call for a citywide day of action on Tuesday, Nov. 5, members of Extinction Rebellion WNC have organized a March on City Hall. Community members concerned about the climate emergency are encouraged to gather at Pritchard Park in Downtown Asheville at 5:00 p.m. to march on City Hall and demand local government tell the truth about the reality of climate change and act on it.

The choice to march on Nov. 5 is intentional, says XRWNC, as it is the day the people of Asheville would have been casting their vote if this year’s city elections where still happening. Instead, the 2019 elections were cancelled by way of the General Assembly’s passing of Senate Bill 813. Though the worst of the bill has been rejected, the people of Asheville have been denied their basic democratic right of voting.

Extinction Rebellion WNC knows the forces that cancelled city elections are the same ones preventing us from acting on the existential threat of climate change. So on Nov. 5, instead of heading to the voting booths, the people of Asheville are invited to take to the streets to demand action that addresses the reality of the impending climate crisis.

Extinction Rebellion is an international movement focused on the use of creative nonviolence and civil disobedience to force government action on climate change. In the United States there are four demands.

1) Tell the truth: Declare a climate and ecological emergency.

2) Act Now: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

3) Beyond Politics: Government must be led by a Citizen’s Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

4) Just Transition: Prioritize the most vulnerable. Reparations to marginalized communities. Legal rights for ecosystems.

The world-famous philosopher of science, Karl Popper, insisted that to be a valid scientific theory any hypothesis must be falsifiable. This includes the widely held conjecture of anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change. In short, a single set of scholarly findings that is not explained by the premise of man-made global warming which is attributable to the burning of fossil fuels can falsify this entire body of scientific speculation and this has recently occurred. Last summer the third of three peer-reviewed scientific papers that were conducted by three separate groups of expert investigators from three different universities and which have been published in eminent peer-reviewed scholarly journals have found no evidence to support the assertion regarding human-induced climate change. Instead, all three groups independently found that the warming that has happened was almost entirely attributable to galactic cosmic rays that affect the quantity of the Earth’s low hanging clouds. These expert investigators call this canopy or blanket the “umbrella effect”. The bottom line is that the entire climate change hysteria has now been falsified and is untrue. These three experimental results have conclusively shown that the IPCC and its computer simulation models (GCMs) are not valid.
