Families Belong Together Rally takes place Saturday, June 30

Press release from Families Belong Together Asheville:

In coordination with hundreds of other rallies held around the country,
Families Belong Together Asheville and Indivisible Asheville/WNC will
hold a Families Belong Together Rally at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30 at
68 Haywood St. in downtown Asheville, across from the St. Lawrence
Basilica.

The Families Belong Together Rally is in response to the cruel, inhumane
and unjustified separation of children from their parents along the U.S.
border with Mexico and at other ports of entry into the U.S. Rallies and
marches across the country will protest the conditions in which these
children are kept, and the irreversible trauma that has already been
perpetrated on these children and their parents for the crime of seeking
a better life.

Speakers at the Families Belong Together Rally in Asheville include
local candidates for U.S. Congress David Wilson Brown and Phillip Price,
as well as community members with personal immigration stories and
performances to share.

“This rally is intended to bring people together, people who care about
a unified issue, and I hope some will get active in combating the
countless problems within our immigration system,” said Kasey Meyer of
Families Belong Together Asheville. “There are ways to participate
daily, weekly or even monthly to work towards change and to help those
already impacted by the policies in place.”
