The importance of preserving family history, heirlooms, and artifacts will be the subject of a special free public event presented by UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, at Brunk Auctions in Asheville.
John Capers and Andrew Brunk will be featured presenters. Capers, who found his passion for collecting after retiring from a career in print and broadcast media, will describe his work chairing the Archives Committee of the Merion Golf Club in Philadelphia, Pa. Capers now presents to clubs around the country interested in archiving and showcasing their artifacts in a way that instills pride in members and employees.
Andrew Brunk, president and auctioneer for Asheville-based Brunk Auctions, which also conducts operations in Nashville, Tenn. Brunk appears regularly on the Emmy Award-winning PBS series, Antiques Roadshow, where he appraises fine and decorative arts, folk art and family treasures.
This free event is open to everyone and takes place at Brunk Auctions, 117 Tunnel Rd. in Asheville. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP online at fbf.unca.edu/register.
In June, the Family Business Forum will host the Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC), an international conference dedicated to creating usable knowledge for family businesses. The three-day conference, June 8-10 will take place at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, Sherrill’s Inn and the Biltmore Estate – all family-owned enterprises – and include sessions at UNC Asheville.
The Family Business Forum is a member-driven organization located at UNC Asheville. All forum events are based on feedback from members, and membership in the center is open to family and privately-held businesses. The mission of the UNC Asheville Family Business Forum is to provide professional learning opportunities to help family owned businesses maximize the overall well-being of their company and to assist with transition planning for the next generation of family ownership. UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum is the only ongoing professional development and awareness-raising environment specifically designed for family businesses in Western North Carolina.
