FernLeaf Community Charter School accepting applications Jan. 1st

Press release from FernLeaf Community Charter School:

Enrollment for the area’s newest charter school begins January 1st, 2016. FernLeaf Community Charter School, located in Fletcher, is a small tuition free public school dedicated to providing students with engaging, hands on, experiential learning opportunities. The school will open in August 2016 in a new facility to be built on a 26 acre parcel on Howard Gap Road across from Fletcher Community Park. FernLeaf will accept students in grades kindergarten through third grade for the 2016/2017 school year then add a grade each year through eighth grade. The school is open to all NC residents regardless of what county they live in.

Should applications exceed the number of available seats in any grade, a lottery system will be used to determine which students will attend the school next year. This process is required by law and has been adopted by all area charter schools to cope with growing demand for additional educational options.

“We’ve had very strong interest in FernLeaf, particularly for kindergarten and first grade.” said School Director Michael Luplow. “We do anticipate a lottery, but strongly encourage interested families to apply. It is not at all uncommon for spaces to become available due to relocation or other reasons.”

The application for FernLeaf can be found at the school’s website www.fernleafccs.org. Families interested in learning more about the school are invited to attend any of these upcoming Information Sessions:

Saturday January 23, 10:30 am at WCU at Biltmore Park
Saturday February 20, 10:30 am location to be announced
Saturday March 5, 10:30 at REI in Biltmore Park (Community Room)

Families will hear a presentation on the school and have the opportunity to speak to members of the FernLeaf Board of Directors to ask individual questions. Those interested in attending any of the information sessions are asked to register in advance on the school’s website.
