FernLeaf Community Charter School Receives Nearly $25,000 Donation

Press release from FernLeaf Community Charter School:

FernLeaf Community Charter School in Fletcher is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of a generous donation from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation through its Music Rising disaster relief fund. This donation comes as a much-needed restoration for the school’s music program, which suffered complete loss of one of its campuses due to Hurricane Helene and the unprecedented flooding that followed.

Thanks to the support of the National Music Education Disaster Relief Coalition and the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, FernLeaf will receive a donation of musical instruments and equipment valued at nearly $25,000. The donation includes a wide variety of percussion instruments, keyboards, xylophones, glockenspiels, an acoustic guitar, a portable public address system, and other amazing music education tools. These resources will play a crucial role in helping the school rebuild its music program and provide students with the opportunity to continue their musical education.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation,” said Jennifer Love, Lower School Director. “Music is an integral part of our students’ education, and this donation ensures that we can continue providing meaningful musical experiences to our students during this critical time of healing and rebuilding as well as for years to come.”

Clare Riviere, the school’s Lower School Music Teacher, echoed the sentiment: “Music has the power to bring joy, comfort, and unity, especially in times of adversity. This donation not only replenishes our lost inventory but also reinforces the importance of music in our students’ lives.”

The school will receive the large donation on their Wilderness Campus, which traditionally houses 5th grades through high school but is currently holding the entire student population while their lower grades campus is being rebuilt. FernLeaf’s lower school campus will re-open this fall for the 25-26 school year.
