Film highlights healing effects of music for Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Nov. 3 & 4

A program promoting individualized music for people living in long-term care facilities will be held in Henderson and Buncombe Counties November 3 and 4 respectively. Just Press Play: Awakening the Mind through Music is bringing the film “Alive Inside” (see a short clip at youtube.com) to Henderson County at 2:00 on Thursday, November 3rd at the Epic Theatre and to Buncombe County at 1:30 and 3:30, Friday, November 4th at Land of Sky Regional Council.   “Alive Inside” traces Music and Memory founder Dan Cohen on his journey to help those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias reawaken their souls through the simple, profound experience of listening to their favorite music.  This film won the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s U. S. Documentary Audience award.   There is no charge.

Donations will be accepted and used for purchasing music and other items such as iPods and headphones to support individualized music for residents living in long-term care facilities.  The Buncombe County Community Advisory Committee for Nursing Homes is helping to purchase the film and Carolina Village is sponsoring the cost of renting the Epic Theatre.
