Janice Brumit, Board Chair of Mission Medical Associates and a Mission Health Board Member, was awarded the coveted 2017 Trustee Merit Award from the North Carolina Hospital Association. The recognition, which is among the organization’s highest honors, was awarded July 20 during NCHA’s annual summer meeting in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Ms. Brumit’s involvement with Mission Health began 17 years ago with the Mission Healthcare Foundation, part of Mission Health’s Department of Philanthropy. “Janice’s commitment to her community and to quality healthcare being accessible across the region is unmatched. Her dedication and passion is evidenced in her vision and description of Mission Health as a ‘jewel in the mountains, an important community asset’,” shared Ronald A. Paulus, MD, CEO and President of Mission Health. “On a personal note, her support, friendship and mentorship has been absolutely essential to me as CEO. I came here largely because of her.” Paulus adds that, “her involvement, leadership and oversight of the new Mission Hospital for Advanced Medicine from its earliest beginnings, will be a transformative investment for our community for decades to come.”
“One of her greatest contributions is leading us through a transitional shift in our culture and positioning us to really be prepared for the future,” said Taylor Foss, Mission Health’s Senior Vice President of Organizational Transformation.
She has been an instrumental member and chair of the Mission Health Board, shepherding the board and the wider community through administrative and cultural changes as the system grew. In addition to serving Mission Health and the Mission Health Department of Philanthropy, Brumit has or does serve on the boards of the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Mission Medical Associates and the Mountain Area Health Education Center.
“Janice’s contributions to Mission Health are found not only in the board room but outside of it as well,” said Jack Cecil, President of Biltmore Farms and a member of the Board of Directors for Mission Health Partners. “She always has a smile on her face and such a positive attitude. That has made the organization a better place for both patients and employees.”
A native of Avery County and resident of Asheville, Brumit’s community involvement includes notable community organizations including the United Way, UNC Asheville, Child Abuse Prevention Services, Eblen Charities, Special Olympics, Eliada Homes, Habitat for Humanity, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, Charlotte United Christian Academy, the North Carolina Autism Association and Toys for Tots.
