French Broad Vignerons presents wine evaluation classes & certification

Interested in learning the art of wine-tasting? If so, the French Broad Vignerons, a local organization promoting viticulture in western North Carolina, is offering a chance to learn the ins and outs of tasting and judging in a series of three classes, beginning Saturday, March 14th.

Participants in this series will learn the essentials of wine evaluation, the process of judging using the “Table Captain Process”, and how to conduct an objective evaluation at competitions.

Successful completion of the program will qualify participants to serve as a Wine Judge in this year’s Asheville Wine and Food Festival.

Our wine evaluation class will begin on Saturday, March 14th. If you are interested in joining us for one or all of these classes please RSVP to: jamiefish6@aol.com before March 7th. Wine will be purchased according to the number of people attending. Payment will be due at the beginning of each class. We are hoping for a good group to come together to learn the finer points of wine tasting and judging. Cheers!

The French Broad Vignerons Wine Evaluation Certification is a three part class open to all French broad Vigneron members in good standing.

The classes will be held on the following three Saturdays:
March 14
May 9
July 11

The classes will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at:
Rinehart Racing
260 Rutledge Road
Fletcher, NC 28732.

The charge for EACH class is $20/person.

The classes will cover:
– Essentials of Wine Evaluation – includes vocabulary, components, appearance, aroma, flavors, taste, texture and balance.

– The Wine Evaluation Process – involves the objective evaluation and scoring process using the Table Captain Process

– Wine Competition – includes explanation of the judging environment, variety characterization and identification and typical faults

Upon successful completion, members will be eligible to serve as a Wine Judge for the 2015 Asheville Wine and Food Festival Wine Competitions.

Previously certified French Broad Vigneron judges ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ONE OF THE THREE SESSIONS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO JUDGE THE 2015 COMPETITIONS. The fee for previously certified judges is $10.00 to cover expenses only.
