Friends of the Black Mountain Library host book sale, membership soiree Oct. 6 & 7

From event organizers:

BOOK SALE AT BLACK MOUNTAIN LIBRARY

Stock up for your winter reading by stopping by the Friends of the Library Book Sale, Saturday, October 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale, held in the Education Room of the Black Mountain Library, 105 N. Dougherty St, will include a wide variety of genres and authors.

From mysteries to history to self-help and hobbies, we’ve got it all,” says event Co-Chair Larry Oliver. “With thousands of quality books available, we’re sure to have something of interest for everyone. At $1 or $2 a book, it’s a great deal.”

The Friends were especially lucky this year to receive donations of children’s books from two elementary school libraries. Homeschoolers will find a huge collection of beautiful books available for teaching, especially non-fiction like science and social studies.

Friday, October 6, 5:30 to 8 p.m., will feature a Friends of the Library Membership Soiree and Book Sale. All Friends of the Black Mountain Library are invited to stop by for refreshments and meet the Friends Board. There will be a brief presentation about the future plans of the Friends at 6 p.m. Members are welcome to shop at the Book Sale that evening. This event is also open to those who are not yet Friends, but would like to learn more about the organization. Annual membership is $15 and forms will be available that evening.

The Friends exists to support and enhance the work of the Black Mountain Library,” says Book Sale Co-Chair Barbara Callaway. “The library is a community treasure, and all proceeds from the Book Sale will be used to supplement the library’s budget. The Friends pay for things like periodicals, large print books, and children’s programming. The more we raise, the more we can offer at the library.”

The Friends will be setting up for the Book Sale on Saturday, September 30. Beginning at 9 a.m., an all volunteer work crew will spend much of the day organizing books. Members of the community who would like to help are encouraged to participate. Also, drivers are needed to pick up donated books that day which are currently stored elsewhere in Black Mountain. “This is truly a community effort,” says Oliver, “and we welcome anyone with a couple of hours to share with us that day.”
