Press release from Friends of the Polk County Public Libraries:

Make plans to support our local libraries at the Friends of the Polk County Public Libraries Fall Book Sale from Wednesday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Columbus Library at 1289 W. Mills St.

The first day of the sale is the exclusive Special Preview Day for Friends Only. From 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, current members of the Friends and those who join that day will have exclusive access to the Book Sale and the first opportunity to peruse and purchase from the thousands of books, CDs and DVDs featured at the sale.

Come take advantage of the Special Preview Day and bring a friend to join the Friends. Annual memberships with the nonprofit Friends group are $10 for individuals and $15 for families living in the same household. Individual lifetime memberships are $100. Membership forms will be at the Book Sale and also can be downloaded at polklibrary.org/support/friends. In addition to giving you a first look at the Fall Book Sale, joining the Friends helps raise money that directly benefits programs and more at the Polk County Public Libraries.

The Fall Book Sale will be held:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. (Special Preview Day for Friends Only)
  • Thursday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Select books free starting at 3 p.m.)
  • Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., ($5 bag sale from 9 a.m.-noon.)

The Fall Book Sale will feature thousands of gently used items including a wide array of fiction and nonfiction titles in hardcover and paperback as well as DVDs and CDs. Items being sold at the Friends Book Sale have been donated by members of the community or withdrawn from circulation at the Polk County Public Libraries. Other than specialty items and large coffee table books, most items at the sale will be priced at $1 or less.

Volunteers are still needed during the Fall Book Sale as well as for set-up beforehand and clean-up afterwards. If you can volunteer, please contact Friends Board Director John Kornmayer at iandjk@windstream.net.

The Friends Book Sales are the primary fundraisers for the nonprofit Friends group with all proceeds going to support library projects and initiatives such as the summer reading programs, special events, professional development opportunities for library staff, appreciation events for library volunteers and free programs for adults and children.

The success of the Friends’ fundraising efforts for the Libraries depends on volunteers like you. Connect with the Friends on Facebook @FriendsofPolkCountyPublicLibraries and learn more at polklibrary.org/support/friends/.
