Press release from Buncombe County:
The Buncombe County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) is now accepting proposals for fiscal year 2026-2027. The JCPC announces the availability of allocations totaling $644,477 in state funding for local nonprofits and public agencies working to serve youth involved with the juvenile justice system. The JCPC addresses the gaps in youth services by promoting intervention, treatment and aftercare strategies and programs which support youth, strengthen families, and advance community safety. Click here for Request for Proposals (RFP).
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Division of Juvenile Justice partners with JCPCs in each county to galvanize community leaders to reduce and prevent youth involvement with the juvenile justice system. The intent is to provide alternatives to youth development centers through community-based programming, treatment, counseling or rehabilitation services for youth involved in, or at risk of involvement, in the juvenile justice system.
The JCPC is seeking innovative projects designed to address identified needs in our community highlighted in the linked Summary Risk & Needs Report, December 2024. Based on these factors and possible gaps in the Continuum of Services, the following program types will be considered for funding:
- Restitution / Community Service
- Restorative Services / Restorative Justice / Teen Court / Conflict Resolution
- Interpersonal / Experiential Skills
- Vocational Skills
- Tutoring / Academic Enhancement / Mentoring
- Substance Misuse/Individual/Group Counseling Services
- Parent / Family Skill Building
- Runaway / Temporary Shelter
Program services should be effective with youth and families involved with the juvenile justice system, aligning with NCDPS JCPC Minimum Standards (linked here). Services should be outcome-based, have an evaluation component, and demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the County.
