Great Smokies Writing Program announces online classes

UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program (GSWP) will present 11 courses this fall for community writers – all fully online. The GSWP, now celebrating its 20th year of workshops with some of Western North Carolina’s finest authors, is offering 10-week courses for writers of different levels of experience that begin in mid-September, and 15-week courses for experienced writers that begin in late August.

  • The Literary Ecosystem: How It Works and the Writer’s Role, with Caroline Christopoulos and Lauren Harr
  • Finding Your Voice: Experiments in Prose Poetry with Scott Branson
  • To Pay Attention: A Creative Nonfiction Workshop with Audra Coleman
  • Handcrafted Stories: Short Fiction Workshop with Annie Frazier Crandell
  • Reading Poems Like an Editor: A Poetry Workshop with Luke Hankins
  • Advanced Feature Writing 2: Slouching Toward the Zeitgeist with Mark MacNamara
  • Composing the Personal Essay: A Creative Nonfiction Workshop with Sebastian Matthews
  • Heart of the Story: Writing for Children and Young Adults Fiction Workshop with Joy Neaves and Rebecca Petruck
  • Poetry Master Class with Eric Nelson
  • Workshoppers at Home: Online Creative Prose Workshop with Vicki Lane
  • Prose Master Class with Elizabeth Lutyens.

The Great Smokies Writing Program is committed to providing the community with affordable university-level classes taught by professional writers. To ensure that students receive individual attention from the instructor, enrollment is limited.
