Announcement from Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity:

The Asheville Habitat ReStore at 31 Meadow Road near Biltmore Village reminds residents that its fourth annual ReStore ReUse Contest ends on Monday, August 31 at midnight. For inspiration, visit the organization’s Flickr page and view albums from past year’s contests.

The purpose of the contest is to showcase innovative building projects constructed predominantly of used building materials. Entries can be garden sheds, artist studios, chicken coops, dog houses, playhouses, chairs and anything else – as long as it fits into one of the judging categories and is constructed predominantly of reused materials. For complete information and guidelines, please visit ashevillehabitat.org.

“Our customers often tell us about the projects they make using materials purchased at the ReStore. This contest is a great way to showcase their projects and inspire others to reuse, recycle and repurpose usable building materials and supplies,” said Scott Stetson, ReStore Manager. (Note: reused materials can be from anywhere, they do not have to be from the Habitat ReStore.)

Five judges will select winners in the following categories: Furniture, Homesteading, Live/Work Space, and Best in Show. The public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite entry (People’s Choice Award) from September 4-18. Details regarding People’s Choice Voting will be posted on ashevillehabitat.org on September 1.
