Hendersonville water and sewer customers benefit from city rebates

Press release

from City of Hendersonville

Our customers are taking the initiative to conserve water usage inside their homes and making it more affordable by taking advantage of the City’s water rebate program. As of today, 20 customers have applied for WaterSense labeled low-flow toilet rebates and 30 customers have applied for Energy-Star labeled clothes washer rebates. The rebate program offers a $25 to $100 credit to people who purchase and install high-efficiency WaterSense labeled toilets, a $75 to $150 rebate for Energy-Star labeled clothes washers, and up to $200 for qualifying WaterSense labeled Smart irrigation system controllers.

High-efficiency toilets require less water at around 1.3 gallons per flush compared to traditional older toilets, which require 3.5 up to 7-gallons per flush. Energy-Star rated clothes washers save consumers an average of $70 per year. Smart irrigation system controllers take into account temperature, humidity, rainfall, soil moisture and other factors to reduce lawn watering significantly.

The City has allocated funds for the program and will continue to offer these rebates until they are exhausted, but even with the number of requests we have had so far, there are plenty of rebates remaining, according to Lee Smith, Utilities Director for the City. Our city council approved 240-HET rebates, 120-clothes washer rebates and 120-Smart irrigation system controllers for the current fiscal year, running from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
