Press release:

Hickory Nut Gap Farm is excited to announce that the Winter Open House will take place on December 14th at the Farm store in Fairview. The event is free and open to the public. The day will include a 1pm farm tour with owner and Hickory Nut Gap Meats founder, Jamie Ager. There will be a selection of Hickory Nut Gap meat dishes and cured products to sample, spiced hot apple cider, and various local goods available for tasting.

The December Open House, one of four offered each year, is a great chance to learn directly from a farmer about the realities of small scale meat production and sustainable, grass based agricultural practices. Jamie and his wife Amy Ager have been raising grassfed beef and pastured pork and poultry at Hickory Nut Gap Farm for 12 years. The tour will include an in depth description of their winter production model, visits with the animals, a look at the apple orchard and berry bushes, as well as a few of the wonderful family stories and rich history of the area. The farm tour will begin at 1pm in the farm store. Be sure to wear walking shoes and suitable clothing depending on weather conditions if you wish to participate.

The farm store, located at 57 Sugar Hollow Rd. in Fairview, is just the place to put you in the holiday spirit while finishing up your shopping over a mug of hot, spiced cider. The store carries local culinary delights such as Firewalker hot sauce, Imladris Farm jams, Black Mountain chocolates, and Farmer Jane soaps. You can also browse our selection of wrapped cured meat and local goods gift baskets and pick up meat for your holiday guests.

On sale during the open house are HNG 100% grassfed sirloin steaks for $12/lb and the popular smoked pork bacon for $7/pack. A 20% discount on all farm apparel will be in effect during the event as well a perfect time to get the new farm t-shirts. The store offers a variety of other local food and craft products including pottery, jewelry, artwork, crackers, chips, salsas, hummus, whole milk, goat cheese, sodas, and chocolates.

Winter hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-5 and on Sunday 12-5. Hickory Nut Gap meat products are also available at a variety of grocery and dining locales as well as the holiday farmers markets in North Asheville and at Asheville City Market and online at www.hickorynutgapfarm.com.
