Highland releases second “Big Batch” 20th anniversary beer with night race

From Highland Brewing:

For the first time, running shoes may outnumber Chacos at a Highland Brewing event. On July 12, runners and non-runners are invited to celebrate Highland’s “twenty years of tasteful brewing” with an exciting beer release and a race. The new American Saison is part of a limited, collectible series of four 22oz. bottles. It is the second of four “Big Batch” 20th Anniversary beers and part of the larger “20 Beers for 20 Years” series.

The beer is described as “a brilliant hybrid of the classic Saison and the American Pale.” Paul Rollow, 13-year veteran at Highland, created the recipe.  On why he brewed this particular beer he says, “I’ve always been a big fan of Belgian styles, and wanted to recreate the spicy Saison flavor while showcasing American hops.  Look for pepper flavors coming from the Saison yeast and citrus coming from the American hops.”

Highland will open on Saturday, July 12th, at 2pm, with the American Saison bottles on sale at 3pm. Gift boxes containing two bottles and two pint glasses will be available. The first 20 boxes will be signed by family owners Oscar Wong and Leah Wong Ashburn. They’re easy to carry and great to give, if you’re willing. Scotch Ale gift boxes sold out in a few hours in April.

As part of the 20th Anniversary festivities, the American Saison release will be celebrated with the first annual Night Flight, a four-mile evening race. 100% of net proceeds will benefit the Asheville Parks & Greenways Foundation, and development of the planned greenway along the Swannanoa River in East Asheville.

The post-race party will have beer, food trucks, music, the ENO Lounge – and beer. Runners will enjoy beer in glowing cups provided at the finish line. Non-runners are encouraged to attend. The brewery will be open with extended hours, closing at 11:30pm.

Highland Night Flight is a production of Glory Hound events.
