Holly Jones urges people to vote for commission candidate Terry Van Duyn in District 3

Here’s the message from commissioner (and District 1 candidate) Holly Jones, via her email newsletter:

Terry Van Duyn for County
Commissioner in District Three

It is exciting to see the quality of candidates on the ballot in the Democratic primary in District 3 (South Asheville and Arden, Biltmore Forest, Enka, parts of Candler, Biltmore Lake, Sandymush, Leicester). They are each committed to our community, informed about the issues that matter most to our community’s future and responsive to citizens’ needs. I believe, that despite intense gerrymandering, District Three will be in play for the Democrats in November.

I would like to introduce you to one of the terrific Democratic candidates that deserves one of the two votes cast in District 3, Terry Van Duyn. At a recent gathering, I heard Terry described by several people familiar with her work: “great energy”, “sharp cookie”, “committed to our community”, “savvy business woman”, “asks the tough questions.”

All of the above describes Terry Van Duyn to a “T”.

For over a decade, I have been working on critical community issues, such as children’s poverty, senior well-being, legal advocacy for low income families and protection of the environment. The entire time, Terry Van Duyn has also been there, with her sleeves rolled up. Terry’s community resume includes: Chair of Pisgah Legal Services, Meals on Wheels volunteer and board member, Council on Aging board member, Family Resource Center volunteer. Terry’s environmental commitment has recently been recognized by the Sierra Club as well.

Terry has been a strong and resilient voice for those most vulnerable in our community – our children, our seniors and women fleeing domestic violence. We need her new voice on the Board of Commissioners.

Terry also is an astute businesswoman who understands budgets, developing priorities and living within our financial means. Terry has a BA in Economics as well as a Master’s of Business Administration. County resources are limited and our citizens are struggling. It is vital that we have leadership that can prioritize and be transparent about these choices.

Terry is honest. Terry is smart. Terry is kind. Terry is innovative.

The time for such a visionary, intelligent and compassionate leader on our county commissioner board has arrived and Terry brings that leadership to the table. Check out Terry for yourself at www.votevanduyn.com. You will be impressed.

Early Voting: There is one week left of Early Voting and the Primary is May 8th. The Jones/Newman Campaign needs volunteers for Election Day. We would love your help!
