Inaugural Asheville Fire Truck Festival set for April 22

Press release from Asheville Fire Department:

The Asheville Fire Department will participate in the First Annual Asheville Fire Truck Festival this weekend on Sunday, April 22nd in the parking lot of the Family Justice Center located at 35 Woodfin St. in Asheville. This family event will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m and will include fire trucks from the Asheville Fire Department along with at least a dozen other trucks from nearby fire departments. Not only can people come check out trucks, but there will be music, food to purchase, a fire safety inflatable house, an obstacle course for kids and much more!

This event is organized by residents Tom and Joyce Tesser and was originally thought to encourage locals and visitors to enjoy a day meeting their local firefighters and checking out trucks. However, over the year of planning this event, the Tesser’s became aware of the increase in firefighters developing cancer and wanted to use this event to make others aware as well. Thier ultimate goal is to raise funds to help purchase necessary items for firefighters which will help in the prevention of cancer. Recent studies have shown that firefighters are much more likely to develop cancers of the respiratory, digestive, brain and urinary systems than the general public due to the increase in carcinogens produced from today’s materials when burning.

On behalf of Tom and Joyce Tesser, the Asheville Fire Department would like to invite everyone to attend the First Annual Asheville Truck Festival to show your support and to have a fun-filled day. After all, who doesn’t love a fire truck?!
