Support local authors and discover new books, many with local interest, at the inaugural Homegrown Author Fair on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Waynesville Library. The local author fair will take place downstairs at the Waynesville Library, where there will be readings by authors and meet-the-author tables with books available for signing and purchase.
More than 20 authors will be participating, and a wide variety of genres will be represented, such as mystery, historical fiction, romance, satire, poetry and Western, in addition to nonfiction titles that span topics from the local logging industry to sailing. Plus, there will be several memoirs, featuring lives lived on the front lines of World War II and the Vietnam War, as well as depictions of lives lived in Western North Carolina’s mountains. Books for children, from picture books to books on science, will also be available.
The schedule of author readings is as follows: 1 p.m. Charley Pearson (The Marianated Nottingham and Other Abuses of the Language); 1:30 p.m. children’s author Dawn Cusick (most recent book is Animals That Make Me Say Look Out!); 2 p.m. memoirists Polly and Tom Davis (Stumbling Toward Enlightenment: A Wife’s Thirty-year Journey with Her Green Beret and The Most Fun I Ever Had With My Clothes On: A March from Private to Colonel); 2:30 p.m. children’s author Tony Antonino (Fritz Fombie Have No Fear and Fritz Fombie and the Frightful Feats of Courage); 3 p.m. Lesley Reifert Hughes (LOL, Little old Ladies Laughing Out Loud); and 3:30 p.m. Paul Willis (Reflections of a World War II Veteran).
The fair is scheduled before the holidays so that attendees can buy local books as presents. Gift wrapping will be offered by the Friends of the Library for a donation, with proceeds benefitting the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit organization that helps to support the library. Refreshments will be served. This event is free to attend thanks to the Friends of the Library. Come on out to the Homegrown Author Fair and read local this holiday season!
