Inclusive Hiring Partners Community Hiring Event set for May 14

Press release from Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce:

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Eagles’ Wings Community Development Corporation are partnering to host the first-ever Inclusive Hiring Partners Community Hiring Event on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 11 AM – 3 PM at Greater Works Church of God in Christ, located at 25 Forsythe Street in Asheville.

Participating employers are hiring to fill dozens of available jobs combined. Most will be interviewing job seekers on site, and many employers in high-demand industries like health care, hospitality, and advanced manufacturing will be hiring on the spot.

“This Hiring Event is a special opportunity to connect with employers here in the community,” said Reverend Ronald Gates, Chairman of the Eagles’ Wings Community Development Corporation Board of Directors. “Join us at Greater Works to make connections and learn more about well-paying careers.”

“Members of our community who have faced pandemic-related hardships and other barriers to career deserve access to great opportunities,” said Kit Cramer, President & CEO of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Inclusive Hiring Partners employers are offering great pay, benefits, and various shift schedules, and they’re ready to meet job seekers today.”

Job seekers can explore a wide variety of rewarding careers at the Community Hiring Event. Employers in growing industries like health care, manufacturing, local government, hospitality, and solar energy are registered to participate, and every participating employer is hiring for at least one job paying $18 or more per hour.

For job seekers looking for employment opportunities with schedules that fit their household and family caregiving needs, work options with various shifts, like weekends, nights, or second shift, are available with most participating employers. Several participating employers are also hiring for roles that allow remote work.

The Community Hiring Event will also help connect people experiencing barriers to employment opportunities. Every employer participating in the Community Hiring Event participates in Inclusive Hiring Partners, an initiative connecting Buncombe County residents experiencing significant employment barriers like previous justice involvement, former incarceration, substance use disorder recovery, or intergenerational poverty with well-paying available jobs.

INFORMATION FOR JOB SEEKERS
The Community Hiring Event is free and open to all job seekers with no registration required to attend. Parking is free and available at Greater Works Church of God in Christ.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Community Hiring Event participants and attendees – both employers and job seekers – are expected to follow Buncombe County protocols for COVID-19 safety that are in effect at the time of the event.

Buncombe County does not currently require face coverings at indoor gatherings, but recommends that individuals experiencing symptoms or with recent positive COVID-19 test results stay home. Buncombe County also encourages people at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 to assess personal risk and need for protective measures like wearing a face covering in crowded areas.
