Info session about internships for people with developmental disabilities, March 1

From a press release:

The Arc of North Carolina (ARC of NC) has received a grant to implement Project SEARCH in Asheville. Mission Health, ARC of NC, A-B Tech, Vocational Rehabilitation, Smoky Mountain MCO, and TEACCH Autism program are collaborating to bring a one-year internship program for 10 students with disabilities between the ages of 18-30. The program is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with a developmental disability. Developmental disabilities can cause difficulties in certain areas of life, especially in language, learning, mobility, self-help, and independent living.

Project SEARCH is targeted to students with the goal of competitive employment. The program will take place at Mission, where the students will be totally immersed in the workplace, providing the students with employability and marketable work skills.  Students will work with a team that includes their families,  Project SEARCH instructors, a job coach/developers and vocational rehabilitation counselors to create an employment goal and provide support during the transition from school to work.
