Jamey Aebersold leads jazz workshop at Asheville Music School, Oct. 13

Jamey Aebersold, internationally known saxophonist and authority on Jazz education and improvisation and 2014 recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Masters Award (the Nation’s highest honor) for his lifetime achievement and exceptional contributions to the advancement of jazz music, will be performing and giving workshops in WNC and Anderson, SC the week of October 12-16, including one at Asheville Music School on October 13.

Jamey has developed a series of Play-A-Longs (book and CD sets (now numbering almost 130 volumes) as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills. The Aebersold book and recording sets allow a musician the opportunity to practice and improvise with well-known jazz personalities at home as well as in the classroom. The recordings employ some of the best jazz musicians in the world. This concept has been responsible for changing the practice habits of thousands of musicians around the world.

His appearances are being sponsored by Isis Restaurant and Music Hall, University of NC-Asheville (UNCA), Brevard College, Anderson University, Asheville Music School, The Arts Council of Henderson County and the Cummings Memorial United Methodist Church.
