Jazz legend Gary Bradley to play with Asheville Music School’s new faculty

Rare Appearance of Local Jazz Legend Gary Bradley with Asheville Music School’s Newest Faculty

Asheville Music School faculty will be collaborating and performing a two set jazz concert at the school’s own performance space, the AMS Performance Loft, on Friday October 11 at 7:00pm and 8:00pm. The concert will highlight veteran Asheville saxophonist Gary Bradley, as well as some of AMS’s newest teachers- Patrick Lopez on trumpet and Michael Jefry Stevens on piano. Also performing are Jason Moore on saxophone, Justin Watt on drums, and AMS director Amy Rae on vocals.

Gary Bradley hails from the New England area where he began his music education and saxophone studies. He studied at Housatonic College and played R&B, Top 40, and Jazz in the New EngIand area. Gary continued his education at LACC and in private study in Los Angeles. He has played with Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, James Ingram, and many others. Gary has been teaching at the Asheville Music School since 1999, and also works with LEAF in Schools and Streets.

Patrick Lopez demonstrates tremendous musicality, versatility, and the ability to entertain everyone from the casual listener to the most discriminating improvised music aficionados. Patrick has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many jazz stars, including include Ira Sullivan, Feliepe Lamoglia, Freddie Hubbard, Mark Colby, Melton Mustafa and Arturo Sandoval. He has recorded for Natalie Cole and Teddy Mulet from the Miami Sound Machine.

Over the past 40 years pianist/composer and Steinway Artist Michael Jefry Stevens has been associated with some of the most important figures in modern jazz. His album “Today This Moment” with the now legendary Mosaic Sextet was voted one of the best 1000 jazz recordings by the 2011 Penguin Guide to Jazz. Mr. Stevens has composed over 400 works for various ensembles, including big band, string quartet, music for voice, solo instruments, and various small group compositions.
