Kenmure Fights Cancer donates more than $31,000 to local cancer programs

From Park Ridge Health:

Hendersonville, N.C. (December 5, 2013) – Kenmure Fights Cancer of Flat Rock donated more than $31,000 to Park Ridge Health and Pardee Hospital on October 16 at a luncheon held at Kenmure Country Club. Each hospital received a check for $15,662 specifically designated to support their respective cancer programs.

In five years, Kenmure Fights Cancer has donated $145,668 to Park Ridge Health and Pardee Hospital. Beginning in January of each year, the Kenmure Fights Cancer committee hosts a series of fundraising events and activities targeting a wide variety of interests. The culmination is a golf tournament, dinner and silent auction in late May.

With the help of Kenmure Fights Cancer, in recent years, Pardee has been able to upgrade digital mammography equipment to state-of-the-art at the Elizabeth Reilly Breast Center, purchase patient tracking software for the cancer center, and purchase blanket warmers which add to the comfort of patients daily. In 2013, Kenmure Fights Cancer gifts have been used to purchase a high-definition, flexible video nasoscope which will be used to examine the nasal passages and voicebox to evaluate for cancers and follow up after treatment. This device has the added capability of recording high-definition still or video images to share with patients or other medical personnel, bringing to Henderson County an innovative diagnostic tool.

At Park Ridge Health, recent contributions from Kenmure Fights Cancer helped provide an electronic door opener at Park Ridge Health’s Oncology & Infusion Center for enhanced wheelchair access, and technology to aid in locating patients’ veins for more comfortable treatment. This year, Kenmure Fights Cancer’s contributions are allocated toward the purchase of a stereotactic breast biopsy unit. Stereotactic biopsy is extensively used by radiologists and breast surgeons specializing in breast imaging to obtain tissue samples containing microcalcifications, which can be an early sign of breast cancer. Patients benefit greatly from this advanced technology because it identifies the exact location of the abnormality by using a computer and X-rays taken from at least two different angles.
