League of Women Voters hosts Oct. 11 program on state constitutional amendments

Press release from the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County:

The League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County and the 28th Judicial District Bar
invite you to Six Proposed Constitutional Amendments: What do the Democrats and Republicans have to say? The free event takes place on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Buncombe County Judicial Complex, Courtroom 1A, 181 College St., Asheville.

The six proposed amendments to the North Carolina Constitution which will be on the ballot in the upcoming elections have already been the focus of a lot of discussion and debate. The courts sent some of them back to the NC Assembly for re-write. Two of them would make significant change in which part of state government has certain responsibilities. One of them brings back the previously court-rejected voter ID concept.

If you want information on the amendments and what they could mean for North Carolina residents, come to this co-hosted event where both the major political parties will be represented and audience members will have an opportunity to submit questions to the speakers. Note: This event is not a candidate forum or a political debate. It’s an informational program.

Speakers:

  • Senator Terry Van Duyn, 49th Senatorial District, NC, presenting the Democratic Party point of view
  • A speaker as yet to be identified who will present the Republican point of view

Paid parking is available at the College St. Parking Deck. For more information, contact the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County at 828-333-0893 or leagueofwomenvoters.ab@gmail.com.
