‘Leave Asheville alone!’: Jezebel pokes fun at proposed toplessness ban

From Jezebel, taking aim at the proposed female toplessness ban:

Heads-up, women who enjoy being topless in North Carolina, your (boobs’) time (in the warm southern sun) may soon come to an end. A GOP-backed bill is headed to NC’s House that would amend the current indecent exposure law to expand the definition of “private parts”. Under the new bill, “private parts” explicitly includes “the nipple, or any portion of the areola, or the female breast.” Because TITS ARE TERRIFYING!!!

Are we seriously wasting our time and money on this shit?

Yes. Yes, we are. And apparently it’s stemmed become some Republicans are pissed about feminist protests:

Co-sponsor Rep. Rayne Brown, R-Davidson, told members of the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that her bill was triggered by topless rallies promoting women’s equity that were held during the last two years in Asheville. Though her district is more than a two-hour drive from Asheville, Brown said her constituents are concerned whether the topless protests are legal.

So, Rep. Brown is so disturbed by equality that she’s trying to push legislation to shut women up? Come on, it’s ASHEVILLE! If you take nudity away from them, what will those awesome hippies have left? Besides some damn good vegan restaurants, and a surplus of Tevas? Leave Asheville alone! Besides, you can put back on their tops, but you can’t take away their bullhorns.

Comments are great, specially the one about “man-boobs.” Hairy, saggy, c-cuo gynocomastic monstrosities.

Asheville does not belong to the hippies, and even if it did, the topless protesters are not local hippies, they are outside agitators taking advantage of the cowards on city council, who BY THE WAY started all of this.

By asking the NC Legislature to do their dirty work for them, they hope not to lose any of the hippies’ votes by playing the heavy.

Did you hear that local libs, THE CITY COUNCIL STARTED THIS! Don’t mean to yell, but you don’t seem to want to hear it.

And as an equal opportunity offender, both men AND women of Asheville, keep your ugly mammaries covered. Some of us are trying to eat here.

How is this going to impact nursing mothers?

And why are female nipples singled out? Let’s outlaw the showing of male nipples which have no purpose anyway.

I’m confused, I thought Republicans were for LESS government intrusion on our lives.
So is it just businesses that Republicans want to set free from government tyranny?

A point that I have raised many times with those that support this use of the force of government to impose a particular moral view on others. The typical question I pose (so far, unanswered) is:

What does any of this have to do with the mantra pushed by Republicans and other ‘conservatives’ about ‘limited government’ and ‘individual freedom’?

  5. “What does any of this have to do with the mantra pushed by Republicans and other ‘conservatives’ about ‘limited government’ and ‘individual freedom’?”

I guess you’d have to tell us how many Republicans and conservatives are on city council.

    • Dionysis

Do you really need someone else to tell you that? And the topic is the GOP Nanny State bill in the House, not the faux progressives (for the most part) on City Council.
