Local Cloth Celebrates Learning for American Craft Week

ASHEVILLE—Local Cloth will celebrate American Craft Week 2016 by kicking off its fall slate of classes and workshops for lovers of all things fiber and textiles, and welcoming all fiber craft lovers to tour its new community dye studio and learning center inside The Refinery Creator Space, 207 Coxe Ave.

Fall classes range from paper making, natural dyeing cotton and spindle spinning to tapestry and shaft-loom weaving, stitched shibori, natural dyeing, eco-print dyeing and garment fitting and construction. To sign up, visit the Events page at www.localcloth.org.

Studio visitors can also see and purchase locally sourced and handmade woven, knitted, felted and dyed fabrics, fabric art and apparel created by Local Cloth members, and watch a video of Local Cloth’s Sept. 22 Project Handmade 2016 fashion show of handmade wearable art.

American Craft Week Events at Local Cloth: Schedule Highlights

·      Display and sale of locally handmade fiber arts. Free event on Saturday, October 1st and Sunday, October 2 nd, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

·      Movie Night: Tana Bana: Wisdom of the Loom. Free event on Thursday, October 6th, 6-7 p.m.

·      Paper Making 101 on Friday, October 7th, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

·      Dye cotton Silver with Natural Dyes on Saturday, October 8th, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

·      Display and sale of locally handmade fiber arts. Free event on Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

·      Make your own Spindle and Learn to Spin Wool on Friday, October 14th, 1- 4p.m.

·      Display and sale of locally handmade fiber arts. Free event on Saturday, October 15th and Sunday, October 16th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
